Law & Politics Courses

law and politicsSince then, Chinese rulers, officers and intellectuals have repeatedly groped for ways to modernise their nation to counter mounting pressures from the West. Seen in this perspective, this module might be primarily targeted on how China adapted itself to the modernising West in order to be accepted as a full and respected member of the worldwide society while preserving its personal non-Western id.

The module begins by exploring contending political and sociological understandings of faith on the flip of the twentieth century. It appears, particularly, at the constructed nature of the classes of the ‘religious’ and the ‘secular’, and on the limits of the secularization thesis, which anticipated the privatization, decline and finally disappearance of religion in modernity.

Welcome to the home of the NYU Journal of International Law and Politics (JILP). This scholar-run publication is devoted to commentary on modern points in worldwide and comparative regulation.

It will introduce college students to a variety of theoretical frameworks via which to know and critically consider international law historically and in context. It will provide students with information and understanding of the origins and development of international law and of its key ideas, rules and guidelines. The module will allow students to consider the relevance, or otherwise, of international law to up to date worldwide issues and to critically assess its limitations and effects.
